Georgia Football Scrimmage No. 2: The Truth About the Dawgs

Two scrimmages down. Fall camp is in the books. And it’s time to tell the truth about what’s really going on with Georgia football right now.

Let’s rewind. After the first scrimmage, reports came out that the defense had the upper hand — and honestly, that surprised a lot of people. The offense had been sharp early in camp, but when it came time to line it up, the defense landed the haymaker.

So, heading into Scrimmage No. 2, the big question was simple: Would the offense respond?

The answer? Absolutely.

But before we get into that, let’s start with the first big truth.

Truth #1: Kirby Smart’s Fire Still Burns

Year 10 for Kirby Smart at Georgia. Think about that. Most coaches hit a wall somewhere along the way — the fire dulls, the energy dips, the passion fades. Not Kirby. Not even close.

Before the scrimmage even started, Smart lit the place up. Microphone in hand, then mic dropped to the turf, and he went right at his offense — especially the line. He told them straight up: Tick tock. Show me something.

And when Kirby calls out not just players, but his position coaches too, in front of everybody? That’s as real as it gets. The man is still wired like it’s Day 1, and he’s demanding the same energy from everyone around him. Dawg fans, that should fire you up.

Truth #2: The Offense Punched Back

Message received. The offense answered in a big way. Gunner Stockton led scoring drives on two of his first three series. Dillon Bell ripped off a 60-yard touchdown on the second play of the scrimmage. The line opened holes, protected the quarterback, and played with pride after being embarrassed a week earlier.

That’s what you want. These guys aren’t wired to just take an L and move on. You bloody their nose, they’re coming back swinging. That’s the DNA of a championship team.

Truth #3: Fresh Faces Are Emerging

Here’s the fun part — it wasn’t just the veterans making noise. True freshman Juan Gaston started at right guard. A true freshman. And the offense rolled behind him. That says a lot about his talent and how quickly he’s developed.

Bo Walker flashed at running back. C.J. Wiley put up monster numbers at receiver. And on defense? Kris Jones made his presence felt at linebacker, while freshman Elijah Griffin continued to prove he belongs with the ones. Even Nnamdi Ogboko, a young defensive tackle, showed signs of being that next immovable force in the middle.

The point is simple: this roster isn’t just loaded at the top. Kirby and his staff keep stacking waves of talent, and some of these young dudes are already forcing their way into the rotation.

The Bottom Line

Here’s what we learned in Scrimmage No. 2:

  1. Kirby Smart’s fire hasn’t cooled a bit.

  2. The offense answered the call when challenged.
  3. Georgia’s young talent is the real deal.

That’s the formula for another run. Depth, leadership, competition, and belief.

And if you’re asking me? After what we saw Saturday, these Dawgs look every bit like a team ready to swing back at anybody who dares throw the first punch.

Go Dawgs!
